Israeli 1st Division Football League approved today the introduction of the video assistant referees (VAR) in the coming season

Just as in the world cup and in the Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and other leading leagues around the world, the Israeli Professional Football Leagues (IPFL) board approved today the introduction of VAR in the first division league starting from the playoff matches in the coming season.  Data from leagues that already implemented the VAR show that it reduces by 6 times critical referee mistakes  from one every 3 matches to one every 19 matches. Not only that, the VAR reduces by 22% the yellow and red cards, reduces the pretentions and the arguments with the referee resulting in increasing the net game time.

Nicolas lev, IPFL CEO: “One of our main competitive advantages as a football league, is being Israeli-based, the land of “The Start-Up Nation”. We collaborate with local start-ups to enhance the football experience in many areas and keep looping for innovation for the game. Therefore, adopting the VAR is an obvious step for us that will contribute to fairness, just and trust of the fans in our league. I would like to thank the clubs, the Israeli Football Association and the referees association that partner with us in this project”.
